Pelvic Exercise and Education Request for Assessment

byHamilton Family Health Team

Service Details

Description

This program is designed for individuals with stress urinary incontinence symptoms (i.e. leaking pee when coughing, sneezing, laughing and/or exercising). The health care professionals will focus on both education and exercises, to help with improving leaking symptoms.

Duration: In Person, once a week, for 8 weeks, 1.5 hours per session

Each session of the group will involve a 15-30 minute education session on various pelvic health related topics including: pelvic floor anatomy and functions, how pelvic floor exercises can help, healthy bladder and bowel habits, stress and the pelvic floor, whole body health and physical activity.

The rest of the session will involve pelvic floor-specific exercises (awareness, relaxation, strengthening) and functional whole body strengthening exercises.

Entry to this program requires an assessment by one of our pelvic health physiotherapists. This assessment may involve an internal vaginal exam to assess for appropriate pelvic floor muscle contraction and relaxation. However, this is not a requirement if you are not comfortable with this, and you will be taught how to check for yourself at home.

Once you have submitted your request, you will be contacted by phone to book your appointment.
